The downstream products of silicon mainly include polysilicon, organic silicon, and aluminum alloys, with end applications primarily in electronic devices, consumer products, photovoltaics, semiconductors, and other fields. This dataset includes material inputs, energy use, solid waste, air emissions, and water emissions. Total emissions include direct process emissions and emissions from the embodied energy in raw materials and electricity. The infrastructure, such as the manufacturing of production equipment and construction of plant facilities, is not included within the boundaries of this dataset. The data inventory draws from literature and has been partially corrected and enhanced with references to industry statistics, standards, and emission factor handbooks. The production of metallurgical grade silicon utilizes carbothermal reduction. The original method, the process flow includes batching, feeding, submerged arc furnace, casting, dewaxing, crushing and other processes.
