The Inner Mongolia region is rich in coal resources with a comprehensive range of coal qualities. The known coal-bearing area exceeds 100,000 square kilometers, and there are 24 locations with coal reserves of over 100 million tons. These are mainly distributed in the Daqing Shan coalfield, Zhungeer coalfield, Dongsheng coalfield, Zhusishan coalfield, Wuda coalfield, Shengli coalfield, Holinghe coalfield, Bayan Hoshote coalfield, Bayinhaolige coalfield, Bayan Bolege coalfield, Zhalainuoer coalfield, Dayan coalfield, Yimin River coalfield, Chenbaerhuxiqi coalfield, and Pingzhuang-Yuanbaoshan coalfield. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has a wide range of coal types, including coking coals such as gas coal, fat coal, coking coal, and lean coal; non-coking coals include lean coal, anthracite, weakly caking coal, non-caking coal, long-flame coal, lignite, and natural coke. The moisture content ranges from 0.78% to 18.52%, the ash content from 4.02% to 47%, the volatiles from 2.9% to 49.73%, the total sulfur content from 0.09% to 4.06%, phosphorus content from 0.001% to 0.208%, and the net calorific value on an as-received basis (Qnet,ar) from 6525 to 8224 kcal/kg.
