Ethylene carbonate is commonly used as an electrolyte in batteries, for manufacturing polyester resins or as a raw material for synthetic coatings. It can also be used in the production of coatings, paints, adhesives, acrylic elastomers, and more. This dataset includes primary raw materials, energy, and atmospheric emissions associated with the production process. The manufacturing equipment and plant construction used in production are not included within the boundaries of the dataset. The data inventory is formed by consolidating data from multiple sources. Ethylene carbonate is prepared through the reaction of ethylene oxide with carbon dioxide under a low-temperature high-pressure environment in the presence of a catalyst.
