This dataset describes the extraction of raw coal. Coal mining methods in China can be divided into two major categories: Open-pit mining and underground mining. The specific choice depends on geological conditions, seam thickness, burial depth, and other factors. Open-pit mining includes drilling, blasting, extraction, crushing, transportation, waste disposal, pollutant treatment, and ecological restoration. Underground mining includes tunneling, coal extraction, mechanical equipment, transportation within the mine and plant, ventilation, pollutant treatment, and ecological restoration and management.

Gansu Provinces coal resources have certain development potential and advantageous conditions. The reserves are abundant and widely distributed, mainly in the Shandan coalfield, Hongshui coalfield, Huating coalfield, An (kou)-Xin (liao) coalfield, Jingyuan coalfield, Yaojie coalfield, Agan coalfield, Tianzhu coalfield, Jiutiaoling coalfield, and Xidayao coalfield. The area of coal-bearing strata exposed is about 47,000 km2, accounting for 10.4% of the total provincial area. The main types of coal in Gansu Province include lignite, long-flame coal, non-caking coal, weak caking coal, gas coal, fat coal, coking coal, lean coal, poor coal, and anthracite.
